Election euphoria

This morning, I woke up with the Black Eyed Peas song "I've Got a Feeling" stuck in my head.

Little did I know.

I was excited when I headed to my precinct this morning. I knew whom I wanted to vote for and where I stood on the issues.

The entire voting process took about 15 minutes. I didn't have to wait to vote, but filling out the two-sheet ballot took the most time.

And I enjoyed every minute.

Here's the thing: I'm politically active. I attend rallies and events, stay informed about issues and people, network with other political junkies and maintain this blog. And all of those are great things.

But the only action that matters is what I did today: I voted.

With every line I drew on my ballot connecting an arrow, I felt a sense of impact, a real sense of change. Today, I was the boss -- helping decide whom to hire, fire and keep employed.

I wasn't standing in a rally, inspired but not effecting immediate action. I wasn't in a passionate conversation with a fellow conservative about what I would like to see changed in America.

No. Instead -- after months of paying attention to campaigns, observing mudslinging, watching political commercials, researching candidates and amendments and blogging like crazy -- as I stood in that booth, drawing thick lines on my ballot, I was finally changing my government. It felt real.

I left my precinct with a sense of euphoria. Voting felt incredibly uplifting. I drove to work with a huge stupid grin on my face and a great sense of relief. That good feeling lasted all day. I wore my "I Voted" sticker with genuine pride.

Today, the vast majority of America is red. We've regained the House, now led by Rep. John Boehner. I kicked out Ron Klein as my representative and am so proud to be represented now by Allen West, an outstanding human being and someone who truly stands for me. Marco Rubio is Florida's senator-elect. At past midnight now, the polls still show Rick Scott leading Alex Sink. And most of my Facebook friends are pissed off. My world is right again.

Tonight was a great night. I can't wait to wake up tomorrow.

Tonight's gonna be a good night.
